Step 1Choose a large pot with straight sides and drainage. The roots will grow outward quickly and will need a base to stand straight.
Step 2Fill the pot halfway up with a loose, rich soil and peat moss.
Step 3Place the bamboo plant in the pot and bury the rhizomes (roots) about 2 inches deep in the soil.
Step 4Keep the bamboo in shade to ward off overheating if you are keeping the plant outside.
Step 5Water the bamboo. Keep the soil just a bit damp, especially in hot weather. Spray a mist of water over the leaves every other day.
Step 6Remove any wilted or yellow leaves. If there is an abundance of wilted or yellow leaves, adjust the amount of water and/or sunlight.
