Technology in general and computers in particular are applied in almost all areas; language learning is not an exception. Applying technology in language learning is not a new topic. This failure was said to belong to technology. Nowadays, administrators and teachers blame for the lack of technological resources. They argue that financial sources are not enough to invest in computers as well as other hardware and software; some areas cannot access the internet; internet access is poor or slow. Some others say that available software has not created an interactive learning environment.

 

However, these are not the underlining reasons, which lie on human beings; the failure of technology application in language learning is not originated from technology but from human resources. Application of technology in language learning and teaching is not only using interactive whiteboards instead of chalkboard. What is important is that teachers can apply effectively technologies to help language learners, which results from training teachers in using computers and creatively applying technology.

 

Firstly, it should be started from changing teachers' negative attitudes towards technology. Most teachers were trained in traditional ways with chalks and textbooks, and then technologies are no use. Therefore, teachers should themselves realize the effectiveness of technology and is the first important thing which should be taken into consideration in any teacher training course.

 

Secondly, teachers should be aware that there is no competition between their roles and technology. Computers or technology cannot work effectively without teachers; they are just a teaching tool to facilitate the learning process.

 

Finally, teachers should know how to evaluate computer programs in addition to how to use them. With innumerable programs supporting language learning, teachers should know which meet their students needs and do not get lost in PR strategies of software companies.

 

The brief history of language learning and computers witnesses dramatic development. Computers play a more and more important role in language learning. However, human resource training should take the leading role in order to strengthen the effectiveness of technologies.
