Laboratory Fume Hoods are safely remove fumes and vapors from the work area. All models include a by-pass airflow design to maintain a stable face velocity as the air sash opens and closes. Models are available corrosion-resistant and explosion-proof blowers.

In-cabinet protection has become increasingly common, using a self-contained "sprinkler-head" type detection and dispersal system. While better then a traditional room sprinkler system, this method is also problematic.

It is of double skin construction with mild steel framed end sections and external panels of epoxy coated steel. Designed to give long term reliable service and performance, with the added benefit of being fire resistant. Internal lining and worktop material are selected, based on application. A wide variety of service fittings can be incorporated on the removable service panels, mounted on either side.

Standard electrical services are 2 twin 13 Amp electrical outlets, light switch and alarm panel. Finished colour to match Laboratory finishes can be selected from a wide range of RAL colour codes.

In these units, the fresh airflow combined with the outflow through the baffles can direct flames and heat in multiple directions based on the location of the source of the fire. This increases the probability that the heat and flames required to activate the system may never reach the detection device on the cylinder's detection device on the top of the unit.

By the time the fire would be large enough to overcome the airflow and activate the system, the amount of damage could be staggering.

Should the fire begin on the working surface of the unit the flames and heat might not pass higher than the first baffle, instead spreading up behind the baffles and into the ductwork, never activating the sprinkler.
