The Varieties of PTFE Tubes and Their Applications
The acceptance and popularity of the PTFE tubes seems to be on the rise and this is not without reason. Polytetrafluroethylene, better known as PTFE exhibits a combination of certain qualities that makes it usable in different industries and areas. However, tubes made up of this material can be found in varying categories and types and one's choice of them is usually determined by the purpose for which they are supposed to be used. Now, the suppliers of the PTFE tubes in India are also aware of the different requirements of their clients and hence, put up a variety of the products for sale. Here is a brief discussion on the different types of these tubes.
Depending on the wall thickness and diameter of the tubes, they can be divided as follows:
Spaghetti Tubing- It has a diameter of 0.2 to 8 mm and the operating temperature for this particular tubing is -75°C to 260°C. Like all other types of the same, it is highly resistant to even strong chemicals and has a commendable electric strength as well. It is perfectly suited for fields where the conditions for operation are rather rough and this is because they act well as insulators.
PTFE Pressure Hose- This tubing has similar properties with others but is yet considered superior to many. The pressure hoses have very high chemical resistance, corrosion and rust resistance power. Added to all this is their capacity to work under high ranges of temperature. Robotics, aircraft, steel mills are some of the areas where they find wide usages.
PTFE Pipe Liner- This is the best out of all in the sense that it has the thickest wall and diameter. This quality justifies its application to lined metal pipes. Now, since these pipe liners can cover even a 6m long pipe, the user has to depend less on the extension materials to cater to the length requirements. Thus, undertaking several mechanical operations become easier and hassle- free with these liners.
The Polytetrafluroethylene tubes are found in such wide varieties that each of the above- mentioned types are found incorporating certain variations like:
Multi- lumen tubing, which is an exterior tube with multiple tubes in its interiors. It is used in medical operations as each of the inside tubes can carry a different fluid.
Split tubing is the one that has ridges, which can be split in a longitudinal way.
Convoluted tubing bends perfectly well owing to the various folds on its outer walls.
Filled tubes come with chemical additive paving the way for its radiopaque features. They immensely help in allowing visibility in X-rays.
Heat shrinkable ones can contract in diameter on application of heated air and are widely preferred for insulation and protection.
