Benefits Of Using Recycled PTFE Products

Benefits Of Using Recycled PTFE Products
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) was discovered by Roy Plunkett on April 6, 1938. Later, the synthesized forms were developed by DuPont. Today, recycling PTFE is in demand and about 1200 BTU's of energy can be saved when one pound of the plastic PET bottles are recycled.
Now-a-days, recycling of materials has become very popular because the recycled materials give many useful products and enable reuse of scrap. Materials like plastic, metal, textiles, electronics, glass, paper, etc can be recycled easily. Today, PTFE recycling is one of the best recycling processes for recycling PTFE waste material.

PTFE and Recycling Process

PTFE is otherwise known as Polytetrafluoroethylene plastics were discovered by famous Roy Plunkett on April 6th 1938. The new process was synthesized into new form by DuPont.  By the year 1946, Teflon resin was used to produce small machine parts used in military and industrial applications.

PTFE's are transparent in nature and excellent barrier to gas, moisture and resistance to heat. These types of plastics are not soluble in most of the solvents. The maximum utilization temperature is 500 degree F and minimum utilization temperature of -328 degree F.

PTFE has tremendous resistance to sunlight, specific density of 2.2, tensile strength of 6,240 psi and melting point of 626 degree F. The use of PTFE have increased over decades and used in many applications such as automotive, medical, household, food packaging, textiles and personal care.  PTFE scraps can be recycled easier as it does not react to any chemical reaction.

The extruded forms got from PTFE are only recycled, it is not possible to recycle the resin and powdered forms. Then the extruded forms are heated at working temperature and cut down into pellets. PTFE scraps give recycled forms such as rods, tubing, tapes and more. The recycled process is then sent to the manufacturing industries to make the new useful products. Many types of plastics are available such as PET, HDPE, LDPE, PVC, PP, PS, PTFE, PETG, acrylic and more. The recycling for each plastic material should be done in better and useful way.
Uses of PTFE Recycled products

In the medical industry, the PTFE is used as vascular grafts because it does not allow the cell growth in the blood. Cookware, bake ware, and food packaging the PTFE recycled products are used. It is also used as additives in inks, paints and cosmetics.

Benefits of Recycling

Recycling helps to fill the landfill space and estimated that single pound of PET plastic bottles saves about 12,000 BTU's of heat energy.
