Women’s 2011 U.S. Open tournament schedule
The 130th United States Open tennis tournament will be held in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., from Aug. 29 through Sunday, Sept. 11. The tournament is the only Grand Slam event held in the United States and represents the unofficial end of summer for tennis fans and sports fans alike. What better way to end the summer, however, than with some of the best tennis of the season?
Here is a quick guide to the U.S. Open tournament schedule on the women's side of the bracket so that you don't miss a second of the action.
Tournament Schedule
Following a week of qualifying tournaments that start on Aug. 23 and run through Aug. 26. The actual first round of the tournament gets under way Aug. 29. The women's first round runs for two days in both morning sessions, starting at 11 a.m. EST and night sessions that begin under the lights at 7 p.m. EST. This is followed by two days of second-round play, two days of third-round play and two days of fourth-round play—all following the same split morning and evening sessions.
The women's quarterfinals begin Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. EST and runs through the following night. The women have a day off on Thursday, Sept. 8 and begin play once again on Friday, Sept. 9. The first women's semifinal match begins at 11 a.m. EST, with the second match following the conclusion of the first.
Finally, the women's U.S. Open final will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 and will be begin at 7 p.m. EST, following a pre-match ceremony.
Television and Internet Coverage
Television coverage of the tournament will be split between CBS, the ESPN family of networks and the Tennis Channel. While the qualifying rounds are not televised, the Arthur Ashe Kids' Day is, along with the "U.S. Open Preview Show," airing on CBS starting at noon EST on Aug. 28. Throughout much of the first four rounds, the Tennis Channel will carrying morning play starting at 11 a.m. EST and continuing through the start of the evening session. Meanwhile, ESPN2 will carry much of the afternoon and evening play during the opening rounds. The quarterfinals will also air on ESPN2, while the semifinals and finals will be carried by CBS.
Throughout the entire tournament, streaming video will also be offered on the U.S. Open website, though, this coverage will not be on demand.
